Women's Basketball Rally Comes Up Short In Season Ending Loss To UIndy 60-47

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 28)-
The McKendree University women's basketball team used a fourth-quarter rally to cut its deficit to five, but was unable to complete the comeback in a 60-47 season-ending loss to University of Indianapolis in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

The Bearcats end their season with an overall record of 12-17, and reached the GLVC tournament for the first time in program history since becoming full-time NCAA Division II members in 2013-14.

Senior guard Kelsee Ennis (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) led McKendree with 14 points, while fellow senior guard Kacey Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) added nine points. Senior guard Ashley Klass (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) also played her final collegiate game on Sunday.

McKendree held a slight 6-5 lead early in the game, but the Greyhounds found their range and used a 9-0 run behind three 3-pointer's to gain a 14-6 lead, and ended the quarter in the lead 16-8. UIndy remained in the lead throughout the second quarter and held a 26-14 lead at the break. McKendree battled back in the third quarter and chipped away at the deficit to trail 38-27 heading into the final quarter. An 8-0 run by the Bearcats cut the deficit to 42-35 with just over four minutes to play, and a pair of free throws by junior forward Ellie Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) later brought Mckendree to within five, 44-39, with 3:12 remaining. The Greyhounds went on to make 14 of its 17 free throw attempts down the stretch to pull away and earn the 60-47 win.

Princess German led all players with 22 points for Indianapolis.
