RESULTS
(LOUISVILLE, Kent., Oct. 7) – The
McKendree University men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed at the Derby City Invite on Saturday, with the women earning second place and the men taking first place.
Seven teams made up the field of competition at the Derby City Invite on Saturday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium on the campus of Louisville University. The field included two Great Lakes Valley Conference (
GLVC) opponents in
Maryville University and Bellarmine University. As well as Franklin College, Centre College, Rhodes College, and Asbury University.
Women's Swimming & Diving
The women's swimming & diving team earned 495.6 points in the meet, earning a second place finish behind Franklin College. The Bearcats recorded several great swims in the competition including nine first place finishes.
McKendree's relay teams place first in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. The 200 medley relay team made up of sophomore
Sydney Rey (Columbia, IL/Columbia High School), sophomore
Milica Sostarec, freshman Victoria
Sananikone, and freshman Meredith
Geyer took fourth place with a time of 1:52.58. The 400 free relay team of
Geyer, sophomore
Magdalena Knapp (Bolzano, Italy/Gymnasium Walther von der Vogelweide Bozen), freshman
Christina Marshall (Winston Salem, NC/Reagan High School), and
Sostarec earned first place with a time of 3:40.35.
Geyer was a part of three first place finishes, including two in individual events.
Geyer took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.55, and the 500 free with a time of 5:09.16.
Sananikone notched two first place finishes on the day, with both coming in individual events.
Sananikone placed first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.24, and first in the 100 fly with a time of 59.55, along with finishing in second in the 100 free with a time of 54.79. Knapp earned a first place finish in the 1000 free with a final time of 10:57.28. Rey earned a first place finish in the 100 back with a time of 59.39 and competed in the 200 medley relay. Marshall placed first in the 400 free relay, along with a second place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.72, and a third place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.38. Freshman swimmer
Katelyn Anguish (Afton, TN/Chuckley Doak High School) notched a third place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:25.10.
The Bearcats divers competed for the first time, with freshman Caitlyn
Canadi placing second in the 1 Meter Dive with a score of 225.30, and freshman
Taryn Metzler placing sixth with a score of 169.90.
Canadi also competed in the 3 Meter Dive placing third with a score of 217.65.
Men's Swimming & Diving
The men's swimming & diving team took first place in the meet with a score of 586.1. The Bearcats took earned first place in 12 events, and finished in the top three in every event.

Nyirimana placed second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:19.85.
Buijs place first in all four events that he competed in, the 200 medley relay, 100 back, 200 back, and the 200 IM.
Buijs touched the wall in just 51.67 in the 100 back, 1:53.23 in the 200 back, and had a time of 1:56.38 in the 200 IM.
Pucarevic earned three first place finishes and a second place finish on the day, including two first place finishes in relay events. In individual events
Pucarevic placed first in the 100 free with a time of 45.66, and second place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.98. Skinner also took three first place finishes and one second place finish at the meet. Skinner took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.46, the 50 free with a time of 21.65, and the 400 free relay. Skinner took second place in the 100 free just 0.4 seconds behind
Pucarevic, with a time of 46.06. Freshman
Throstur Bjarnason took first place in both the 1000 and 500 free events, with a time of 9:41.16 in the 1000 free and a time of 4:42.58 in the 500 free.
McKendree sophomore diver Thad
Zuber took first place in the 3 Meter Dive with a score of 252.95.
Zuber also took third in the 1 Meter Dive with a score of 236.55.
