(East Peoria, Ill., Nov. 17) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team swept the Truman State University Bulldogs in a rematch of the 2016 tournament championship final. With the victory, the Bearcats (now 23-7 overall) advance to take on the Rockhurst University Hawks in the semifinals tomorrow at 2:30.

Seniors Arela Williams and Amanda Geiger both had double-digit kills for the Bearcats, with 15 and 14 respectively. Sophomore libero Kelly Voss led McKendree on defense, picking up 15 digs, while freshman outside hitter Elle Russell collected 13. Junior setter Morgan Melchert averaged 11.6 assists per set, to go with nine digs.

A kill by Geiger gave the Bearcats the early 10-5 advantage in the first, but the Bulldogs fought back to knot it up at 19 all. McKendree ended the set on a 6-2 run to take the 1-0 lead.

The Bearcats trailed by four points late in the second set, before ending on an 8-2 scoring run to take it 26-24, and going up two sets to none on Truman State.

McKendree started off the third set on a strong note, gaining an early 9-3 advantage. The Bulldogs responded with a 11-4 scoring run, taking their first lead of the set. However, the Bearcats fought to a 25-23 set win, sweeping Truman State 3-0.

The Rockhurst Hawks advanced to the GLVC semifinals with a 3-1 victory over the Missouri St. Louis Tritons in the first quarterfinal match-up of the day. The Bearcats and Hawks last played in October, with McKendree winning in a five-set battle in Lebanon.
