(Indianapolis, Ind. Feb. 5) – The McKendree University men's wrestling team placed 10 wrestlers at the Greyhound Open in Indianapolis this evening.
Of the 22 individuals the Bearcats wrestled, 10 of them finished in the top eight spots of their respective weight classes.
J.J. Filipek (Warrenton, Mo./Warrenton) (184) placed the highest of the Bearcats claiming a second place finish for McKendree. Filipek posted two decisions and a pin fall victory before he fell in the title match to Hunter Yeargan of Ohio University.
Weston Basler (Imperial, Mo./Seckman) (133) posted a 5-1 record on the day to claim a third place finish. Basler battled back from an early loss to Dylan Duncan of University of Illinois to win four consecutive matches.
Brock Wingbermuehle (Imperial, Mo./Seckman High School ) (165) went 6-1 to post a third place finish. Wingbermuehle cruised through the 165-pound bracket recording four tech fall victories and two pin fall victories.
