Kane Collects her Season’s Third Defensive WWPA Player of the Week

Fifth Overall Weekly Award for the Senior

LEBANON, Ill. - The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) has announced their weekly winners for March 5th, 2025, with senior goalkeeper Sydney Kane (Kankakee, Ill.) being recognized as the WWPA Defensive Player of the Week. 

This is Kane's third such honor received by the conference on the season, as she won it twice prior on February 12th and on January 29th. She also obtained the weekly award twice last season, which led to her garnering All-WWPA Second Team. 

Her Interim Head Coach Alex Figueras said the following on Kane: 

"Kane has been a force for us this year, both as a presence and in the water. This is another well-deserved honor, and she continues to show why she's one of the top goalies around the entire nation." 

Kane held serve immensely on the defensive end, playing in all five contests at the annual Convergence Tournament. She averaged 13.2 saves (66 total) on 10.8 (54 total) goals allowed (55.0% save percentage), along with 0.8 steals (4 total) in the five games played this weekend in all 160:00 out of 160:00 minutes. 

In the game one win at DIII (RV) Whittier College, she had 15 saves on a 71.4% save percentage. In the game two loss against Azusa Pacific University, she had 17 saves on a 56.7% save percentage plus two steals. In the game three loss at DIII No.2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, she had eight saves on a 33.3% save percentage plus two steals. In the game four loss against No.23 Villanova University, she had nine saves on a 40.9% save percentage. In the game five win at DIII No.8 Occidental College, she had 17 saves on 73.9% save percentage. 

The senior is top in the WWPA in total steals (2nd – 20), total saves (1st – 224), save percentage (1st – 57.7%), goals-against average (1st – 8.75, saves per game (1st – 11.2), and steals per game (6th – 1.0). 

The Kankakee, Illinois native is top nationally as of March 5th in total saves (1st – 224), save percentage (1st – 57.7%), goals-against average (2nd – 8.75), and saves per game (1st – 11.2).

McKendree will be back in action next weekend when they return to O'Fallon, Illinois for their home opener against Augustana College (Ill.) at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex with a start time of 2:00 PM CT.
