(FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill., Oct. 24)—The McKendree University hockey team received some big offensive performances in a 14-3 Bearcat victory Friday at home against Western Illinois University.

Senior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) and senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) each scored four goals in the contest, while freshman wing David Coleman (Greenville, Ill./Fort Zumwalt West) handed out five assists for McKendree. The Bearcats have won their last five games to move to 7-2 on the year. McKendree and Western Illinois will play again Saturday at 3 p.m. at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex.

In addition to scoring four goals, Roberts added three assists while Dreyer dished out two. Junior center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) also enjoyed a big night with two goals and three assists.

Tied at 2-2 after 20 minutes of play, McKendree grabbed the lead for good with three power-play goals in the second period. Roberts gave the Bearcats a 3-2 advantage three minutes into the period before Donze followed off an assist from Roberts. Dreyer then scored his first goal with just 2:28 left in the frame to give McKendree a 5-2 lead.

The Bearcats then erupted for nine goals in the third period. Roberts and Dreyer each scored three times in the period, along with Coleman, senior wing Zach Crawford (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) and junior wing Nick Smothers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo).

Junior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) stopped 14 shots to grab his fifth victory of the year. For the contest, McKendree held a 60-17 edge in shots on goal against the Leathernecks.
