(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Sept. 15)—The McKendree University men's cross country team was fifth of eight teams entered in the Richard Clark Invitational, which was contested Saturday morning in Springfield, Mo.
The Bearcats were third of the five NCAA Division II programs entered in the field. Wichita State University claimed the overall team championship, with the University of Missouri-Kansas City close behind in second place. Drury University rounded out the top three in the meet.
Two McKendree runners placed in the top 20 of the individual standings. Junior
Elkana Kipsang (Eldoret, Kenya/Legebet) was 18
th overall in the 91-runner field. Kipsang crossed the finish line in a time of 26:37. Junior
Blake DeLong (Hillsboro, IL/Hillsboro) was just seconds behind Kipsang in 20
th place. DeLong covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:41.
McKendree will return to action Sept. 29 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Kentucky.
