(FULTON, Mo., September 25)—The McKendree College men's soccer team picked up a 1-1 tied against William Woods University to open up 2005 American Midwest Conference play.
After playing a scoreless first-half, McKendree fell behind early in the second-half. William Woods forward Santiago Villegas scored on a direct-kick just four-minutes into the half to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage.
McKendree fought back however and tied the game at the 66-minute when
Scott Horton (Sycamore, Illinois/Sycamore) (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) recorded his first collegiate goal on an assist from
Jay Stremlau (St. Louis, Missouri/St. Mary's) (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary's).
The game remained 1-1 through regulation and two overtime periods with McKendree goalkeeper
Tim Steeg (St. Louis, Missouri/Chaminade) (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) making 10 saves in the tie.
This marks the second straight tie for the Bearcats who are now 4-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play this season. McKendree will be in action again Wednesday when the face Harris-Stowe State University in an AMC match-up. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
