The McKendree Metro Rec Plex is a full-service, state-of-the-art sports complex located just five minutes from the McKendree University campus in O'Fallon, Ill. The complex offers two NHL-sized ice rinks, an aquatic center fit with a 10-lane championship swimming pool, a contemporary fitness area and many other amenities. Ground for the facility was broken in October 2015, and opened for use in January 2017.
McKendree University has seven of its intercollegiate athletic programs that call the McKendree Metro Rec Plex home. The Bearcats' three hockey teams -- the men's ACHA Division 2 and Division 3 teams, along with the women's ACHA Division 1 team -- practice and host games on the main competition ice. The McKendree men's and women's swimming and diving squads, as well as the men's and women's water polo programs, practice and compete in the aquatic center.
On Jan. 14, 2017, the McKendree men's D2 hockey program hosted the first-ever collegiate event at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex. The Bearcats defeated Northern Illinois University 12-2 in front of a capacity crowd of 1,500 fans. The women's hockey team played its first home game at the new facility a week later on Jan. 21.
