Milwaukee, Wis. –- The McKendree College women’s soccer team
picked up a 2-2 come from behind tie on Friday in the opening day of the Cardinal Stritch University Tournament held in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Bearcats got on the board first when
Jill Delabar (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) scored at the 39-minute mark on a rebound shot from teammate
Becky Requarth (Springfield, Ill./Rochester) (Springfield, Ill./Rochester).
John Brown quickly answered back tying the game at 1-1 when Nikki Ganter scored just four minutes later. John Brown grabbed a 2-1 lead when Crystal Perez scored off a corner kick at the 51-minute mark.
The Bearcats scored the tying goal when
Meghan Rooney (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) sent a head ball into the net off a corner kick by teammate
Katelyn Cleveland (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville).
The game remained tied throughout regulation and through two overtime periods with the Bearcats unable to convert on numerous scoring opportunities. The Bearcats outshot John Brown 17-11 in the game and Bearcat goalkeeper
Natalie Jameson (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) made nine saves in the game.
McKendree is now 1-0-1 on the season and will be in action again Saturday against St. Francis University (Ind.). Game time is set for 5 p.m.
