HOCKEY TEAM USES BALANCED ATTACK TO DOWN NORTHWESTERN, 9-7

(FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill., Sept. 30)—The McKendree College hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Northwestern University with a 9-7 win Saturday in Fairview Heights.
 
Twelve different Bearcat players recorded at least one point in the victory. The win pushes McKendree over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 4-3. The Bearcats will play host to Eastern Illinois University Friday at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex. Face-off is set for 8:30 p.m.
 
Junior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) led the offensive surge for McKendree with two goals and two assists. Sophomore center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) also had four points for the Bearcats with a goal and three assists. In all, eight players scored a goal for McKendree.
 
The Bearcats erased an early 1-0 deficit with three goals midway through the first period to take a 3-1 lead. Northwestern regained a 6-5 lead in the third period before sophomore center/wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) tied the contest at 6-6 on a power-play goal with 3:33 left to play. At the 2:02 mark, Donze put McKendree in front to stay. The Wildcats pulled to within 8-7 in the final 37 seconds before Roberts had an empty-net goal with 20 seconds on the clock.
 
Freshman Anthony Millatti (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) posted 29 saves to collect the win in goal for McKendree.
