BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM PAST MISSOURI BAPTIST, 3-0

(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Oct. 11)—The McKendree College women’s soccer team broke loose for a trio of second-half goals to record a 3-0 victory Wednesday against Missouri Baptist University at the Chesterfield Athletic Complex.
 
Senior forward Jenna Shellenberg (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) scored twice for McKendree, while sophomore midfielder Katelyn Cleveland (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) netted the other goal on a corner kick. The Bearcats, now ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, won their seventh consecutive match to move to 10-3-0 overall. McKendree remains undefeated in American Midwest Conference play at 2-0-0.
 
After a scoreless first half, Shellenberg scored on an assist from senior back April Schatz (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood West) (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood West) to give McKendree a 1-0 advantage. Cleveland increased the margin to 2-0 as she scored on a corner kick. Shellenberg and Cleveland combined on the Bearcats’ final goal, when Shellenberg took a pass from Cleveland and notched her 11th goal of the season.
 
Senior Natalie Jameson (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) earned the victory in goal for McKendree. It was Jameson’s third shutout of the year.
 
McKendree will return to Leemon Field on Friday for a non-conference match with Baker University. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
