(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 12)—Senior forward Jenna Shellenberg (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) moved to the top of the all-time scoring list for the McKendree College women’s soccer team during the Bearcats’ 2-0 victory Friday against Baker University at Leemon Field.

The Bearcats, who are ranked No. 16 in this latest NAIA women’s soccer poll, won their eighth consecutive match to improve to 11-3-0. Baker drops to 4-5-2 on the year. McKendree is now 8-1 at home this season.

Shellenberg goal in the 33rd minute of play gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead and pushed her career point total to 109. That moves Shellenberg into a tie for the program’s all-time scoring lead with Kasey Stogsdill, who recorded 109 points while at McKendree from 2001-04. The tally was Shellenberg’s 12th goal of the season, and it came on an entry pass into the box by sophomore midfielder Katelyn Cleveland (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville).

Early in the second half, Shellenberg appeared to have set the new team record for scoring, but her goal on a redirect of a shot by senior midfielder Katie Hubbard (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) was nullified by an offsides call. Sophomore midfielder Becky Requarth (Springfield, Ill./Rochester) (Springfield, Ill./Rochester) added the Bearcats’ final goal in the 78th minute on a shot from 25 yards out.

Senior Natalie Jameson (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) earned her second consecutive shutout victory for McKendree. She made two saves in the contest, both of which came in the second half. Jameson picked up her fourth shutout of the year.

McKendree will play host to Brescia University in a non-conference game Sunday at 2:30 p.m. It will be Senior Day at Leemon Field, and the Bearcats will honor 11 senior players prior to the contest.
