(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 14)—The McKendree College volleyball team posted a pair of victories Saturday in a tri-match at Hannibal-LaGrange College. The Bearcats swept a key American Midwest Conference match from the host Trojans before defeating Culver-Stockton College in four games.

 

McKendree pushed its overall record to 18-11 on the year. The Bearcats are now 6-3 in AMC play, and will return to the court Tuesday with a tri-match in Owensboro, Ky. McKendree will meet host Kentucky Wesleyan College at 5 p.m. before facing Brescia University at 7:30 p.m.

 

Against Hannibal-LaGrange, McKendree won by scores of 30-22, 30-22 and 30-21. Freshman outside hitter Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) led a balanced attack with 12 kills, while sophomore middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) and senior outside hitter Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) each added 11 kills. Senior right-side hitter Colleen Crider (Mt. Vernon, Mo./Mt. Vernon) (Mt. Vernon, Mo./Mt. Vernon) chipped in with 10 attacks.

 

Junior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) led the team with 48 assists, while Dempster notched a team-best 14 digs.

 

McKendree and Culver-Stockton split the first two games of their non-conference match before the Bearcats took control to win the final two games and the match by scores of 30-21, 24-30, 30-19 and 30-25.

 

Once again, Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) paced McKendree with 12 kills, while Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) and Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) each added 10 kills. DeGroot collected a double-double in the win as she dished out 41 assists. Dempster also chipped in with a team-high 16 digs, while DeGroot had four service aces.
