(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Oct. 18)—The McKendree College volleyball squad won its fifth consecutive match with an American Midwest Conference sweep Wednesday at Harris-Stowe State University. The Bearcats won by scores of 30-18, 30-16 and 30-14.

 

The win moves the Bearcats’ overall record to 21-11. McKendree is now 7-3 in American Midwest Conference play, and will return to St. Louis on Friday for an AMC match at Missouri Baptist University. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.

 

Against Harris-Stowe, sophomore middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) and senior outside hitter Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) each had a team-high 11 kills. Kombrink also delivered a season-high six service aces. Junior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) chipped in with 37 assists, while junior setter Hannah Burleson (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) had a team-leading 10 digs.

 

Wednesday’s victory helped McKendree complete a season sweep against Harris-Stowe. The Bearcats swept the Hornets in an Oct. 4 match at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
