WOMEN’S SOCCER CAPTURES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE AMC REGULAR-SEASON TITLE WITH 4-0 WIN AT HANNIBAL-LaGRANGE

(HANNIBAL, Mo., Oct. 21)—The McKendree College women’s soccer team wrapped up its fourth consecutive American Midwest Conference regular-season championship with a 4-0 victory Saturday at Hannibal-LaGrange College.
 
In addition to clinching its fourth straight league championship, the Bearcats extended two other streak in AMC play. McKendree has won its last 17 AMC games and pushed its shutout streak against conference foes to 870 minutes. McKendree, the No. 16 team in the NAIA, won its 10th consecutive match to improve to 13-3 overall. The Bearcats are now 3-0 in the AMC.
 
Senior midfielder Katie Hubbard (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead midway through the first half with an assist from sophomore midfielder Becky Requarth (Springfield, Ill./Rochester) (Springfield, Ill./Rochester). McKendree then exploded for three second-half goals to pull away for the win. Senior forward Ray Ray Cole (Raytown, Mo./St. Teresa's) (Raytown, Mo./St. Teresa’s) started the scoring burst with just under 27 minutes to go off a pass from sophomore midfielder Katelyn Cleveland (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville).
 
Just two minutes later, senior forward Jenna Shellenberg (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) netted an unassisted goal for a 3-0 McKendree lead. Senior midfielder Laura Raymond (O' Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) (O’Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic’s) capped the scoring in the final minute of play with senior midfielder Meghan Rooney (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) getting credit for the assist.
 
Senior Natalie Jameson (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) made two saves to pick up the shutout victory in goal for the Bearcats. It is Jameson’s fifth shutout of the season.
 
McKendree will host Lindenwood University Monday at 1 p.m. in non-conference action at Leemon Field. The Bearcats will close out the 2006 regular season Thursday at Harris-Stowe State University.
