WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS 11TH IN A ROW WITH 2-0 DECISION OVER LINDENWOOD

Junior midfielder Brittany Fuzessery
(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 23)—The McKendree College women’s soccer team reeled off its 11th consecutive win with a 2-0 victory Monday at home against Lindenwood University.

Junior midfielder Brittany Fuzessery (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) and sophomore midfielder Katelyn Cleveland (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) each scored an unassisted goal in the second half to lift the Bearcats to the non-conference victory. McKendree, the No. 16 team in the NAIA, is now 14-3-0 overall and will close out the regular season Thursday with an American Midwest Conference match at Harris-Stowe State University. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Senior Natalie Jameson (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) collected her third consecutive shutout win for the Bearcats. She made four saves against Lindenwood to push her season record to 13-2. This was also Jameson’s sixth shutout in 2006.

After a scoreless first half against Lindenwood (7-6-2), McKendree broke through in the 54th minute of play when Fuzessery buried a shot on a direct kick from 25 yards out. With just under 22 minutes remaining, Cleveland added an insurance goal when she pounced on a loose ball in front of the Lions’ goal and flipped it past the Lindenwood keeper.

McKendree has now won three of its last four meetings with the Lions, including last year’s 4-3 decision at Leemon Field in the NAIA Region V championship game.
