(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 25)—The McKendree College volleyball team earned its 22nd victory of the season Tuesday night with a sweep at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark. The Bearcats cruised to victory by scores of 30-23, 30-19 and 30-14.

 

McKendree moves to 22-12 overall, and the team has won six of its last seven matches. The Bearcats strengthened their hold on third place in the American Midwest Conference standings by improving to 8-4 in league play.

 

Freshman outside hitter Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) led the way for McKendree with 13 kills, while senior outside hitter Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) chipped in with 11 kills. Sophomore middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) posted seven attacks and a team-high seven blocks, while junior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) collected 37 assists.

 

The Bearcats will host the McKendree Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Melvin Price Convocation Center. On Friday, McKendree will face Missouri Valley College at 4 p.m. and College of the Ozarks at 8 p.m. Tournament play will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
