(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 28)—The McKendree College hockey team had its seven-game win streak stopped Saturday by Bradley University, 7-6. The Bearcats and Braves met at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
In a game of twists and turns, Bradley scored the final two goals of the contest, including the game winner with eight minutes remaining to earn a split of the weekend series between the two programs. McKendree is now 9-4 overall and will host Missouri State University Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Bradley jumped out to a 5-0 first-period lead before McKendree stormed back with six unanswered goals to grab a 6-5 lead with 5:51 left in the second period. Junior defenseman
Shawn McBride (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) started the comeback just over two minutes into the second stanza. McKendree continued to chip away at the deficit, and a power-play goal by junior center
Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) knotted the score at 5-5 with 8:39 remaining in the period.
Just three minutes later, McBride completed the comeback with his second goal of the afternoon, a shorthanded tally, to give the Bearcats their only lead at 6-5.
However, Bradley tied the score again at 6-6 later in the period, and an even-strength goal by Steve Dold 12 minutes into the final period proved to be the game-winning score.
Junior
Ryan Ahlemeyer (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) made 32 saves as he was charged with the loss for the Bearcats.
