(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 4)—The McKendree College volleyball team used a balanced attack to post a three-game sweep at home Tuesday against Harris-Stowe State University. The Bearcats rolled to the American Midwest Conference match by scores of 30-16, 30-9 and 30-14.

 

Senior outside hitter Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) and freshman outside hitter Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) each had a team-high nine kills to lead McKendree. Sophomore middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) was right behind with eight kills, while junior middle hitter Angie Clark (Charleston, Mo./Charleston) (Charleston, Mo./Charleston) chipped in with six attacks.

 

Senior libero Marcy Gibson (Carbondale, Ill./Salem) (Salem, Ill./Salem) had a team-leading 21 digs for the Bearcats, while junior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) dished out 27 assists. DeGroot moved into third place on McKendree’s single-season assist list during the match. She now has 873 assists on the season.

 

McKendree improves to 14-8 overall and 5-2 in the AMC. Harris-Stowe drops to 4-16 on the year and 0-10 in the conference. The Bearcats will be in St. Charles, Mo., on Friday and Saturday for the Lindenwood University Invitational. McKendree will take on Baker University Friday at 1 p.m. in the first match of the tournament.
