Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) recorded his second hat trick in as many days as the McKendree College hockey team rallied for a 10-6 win Saturday at home against Eastern Illinois University.
Dreyer, who had four goals Friday night against the Panthers, tallied all three of his Saturday goals in the second period as the Bearcats overcame an early 5-2 deficit. McKendree stretched its win streak to four games to move to 6-3 on the season. McKendree will return to the ice on Friday, Oct. 20 at home against Western Illinois University. The match will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
McKendree trailed 3-1 after the first period, and Eastern Illinois built its lead to 5-2 early in the second period. The Bearcats started their comeback with four consecutive power-play goals, the first coming from sophomore center
Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic). Dreyer then scored two goals in a span of 1:36 to tie the contest at 5-5.
Junior wing
Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) put the Bearcats in front to stay at the 1:47 mark of the second period with assists from Donze and junior center
Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem). McKendree outscored Eastern Illinois 6-1 in the middle period.
Roberts added six assists for McKendree, while Ilges and senior defenseman
Brent Grimm (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) each chipped in with three assists.
Junior
Ryan Ahlemeyer (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) made 30 saves to post his second win against Eastern Illinois on the weekend.
