(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 16)—The McKendree College wrestling team was handed its first dual match loss of the season Thursday at home by Missouri Valley College, 21-16.
The Bearcats won five of the 10 matches on the evening, but a late rally against the Vikings came up short. McKendree is now 2-1 in dual competition this season and will return to action Saturday at the University of Missouri Open in Columbia, Mo.
Freshman
Zak Adomanis (Bowie, Md./Progressive Christian) (Bowie, Md.) got McKendree off to a quick start with a 9-5 decision in the heavyweight match. Freshman
Jermaine Waye (Altama, Ga./) (Atlanta, Ga.) followed with a 3-1 overtime win at 125 pounds to extend the Bearcats’ lead to 6-0. Missouri Valley (2-1) responded with a victory by pinfall and a forfeit win to grab a 12-6 advantage.
Junior
Dominic Angelo (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) (Chicago, Ill.) brought the Bearcats within 12-9 thanks to a 6-4 overtime win. The Vikings took the 157-pound match before junior
Harry Joseph (West Palm Beach, Fla./) (West Palm Beach, Fla.) collected a 14-3 major decision at 165 pounds to help McKendree rally within 15-13. Missouri Valley clinched the dual match by taking the next two contests.
Senior
Ben Laux (Alton, Ill./Alton) (Alton, Ill./Alton) capped the evening for McKendree with a 10-3 victory at 197 pounds.
