(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 8)—The McKendree College wrestling team opened the home portion of its 2006-07 schedule with a 49-6 victory Wednesday against Missouri Baptist University.

 

The Bearcats took nine of the 10 matches on the evening to improve to 2-0 in dual contests this season. McKendree will be at the Central Missouri State University Open on Sunday before returning to the Melvin Price Convocation Center next Thursday, Nov. 16, for a dual match against Missouri Valley College.

 

Against Missouri Baptist, McKendree began the night with a pair of wins by technical fall. Sophomore Jermaine Waye (Altama, Ga./) (Altama, Ga.) earned a 15-0 victory at 125 pounds, while junior Kyle Jahn (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) followed with a 17-1 decision at 133 pounds.

 

After Missouri Baptist earned its only victory of the night with a forfeit at 141 pounds, McKendree junior Dominic Angelo (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) (Chicago, Ill.) provided the most exciting finish of the night. He scored four points in the final minute of regulation, then used a takedown in overtime to record an 8-6 win.

 

McKendree’s next two contests ended with pinfall victories as freshman Aaron Winning (Highland, Ill./) (Highland, Ill.) needed 1:19 to post a win at 157 pounds, and senior Clay Weier (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Belleville, Ill.) followed in the 165-pound match with a pin in 4:29.

 

Following two Bearcat forfeit victories, the Bearcats closed out the match with two more wins by fall. Freshman Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./) (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) needed 1:50 to take the 197-pound match, and freshman Zak Adomanis (Bowie, Md./Progressive Christian) (Bowie, Md.) earned the win at heavyweight in 3:44.
