(LEBANON, Tenn., Dec. 16)—Senior forward
Mike Strobbe (Ferguson, Mo./McCluer) (Ferguson, Mo./McCluer) poured in a season-high 29 points to lead the McKendree College men’s basketball team to an 82-78 victory over host Cumberland University Saturday at the Cumberland Classic.
Strobbe went 9-of-12 from the field and hit all 11 free throw attempts to lead the Bearcats to their ninth victory of the season. In addition, Strobbe collected a team-high nine rebounds against the Bulldogs. McKendree is now 9-6 on the year and will wrap up the first half of its 2006-07 season Monday at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Senior forward
Mark Stovall (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) chipped in with 23 points against Cumberland, while sophomore guard
Eric Palm (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) added 13 points, five rebounds and a team-leading three assists. The Bearcats shot just 45 percent (26-of-58), but connected on 80.6 percent (25-of-31) of their free throw attempts.
DeCorey Young led Cumberland (8-3) with 20 points and six rebounds, while Thomas Douglas posted 16 points for the Bulldogs.
