GAME BOXSCORE
(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 10)-- The McKendree College men's soccer team lost their second consecutive game at home, falling to Graceland University 2-0. McKendree, who had achieved their highest ranking in school history earlier in the week, a No. 5 ranking, is now 1-2 on the season.
The McKendree offense was swamped by the Yellowjackets all game long, as the Bearcats managed just five shots in the game and only one on goal. Graceland pressured McKendree early in the game, out-shooting the Bearcats 8-1 in the first-half and 10-5 in the game.
Graceland scored all they would need early in the game, when Kevin Souter netted a goal at the 16-minute mark after receiving a pass from Matt Klaus. The Yellowjackets added to their lead when Souter scored again at the 29-minute mark.
McKendree was never able to get their offense going, despite having a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. The Yellowjacket defense played the McKendree forwards tight all game and never let the attack get set up.
Bearcat keeper Scott Genz (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) made two saves in the loss. McKendree is 1-2 overall and will be in action again this Wednesday when they travel to St. Xavier University. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
