(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 12)—The McKendree College volleyball team opened its American Midwest Conference schedule with a sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange College Tuesday at the Melvin Price Convocation Center. The Bearcats took the match by scores of 30-15, 30-19 and 30-17.

 

Senior outside hitter Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) and sophomore middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) each had 11 kills to lead the Bearcats to victory. McKendree improves to 3-3 overall and will be at home Friday to host the University of Illinois-Springfield in another AMC match.

 

Junior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) posted 30 assists in the win for McKendree, while senior defensive specialist Marcy Gibson (Carbondale, Ill./Salem) (Salem, Ill./Salem) contributed a team-high 22 digs and four service aces.

 

Kari Boeckman led Hannibal-LaGrange (3-5, 0-1 AMC) with eight kills and 17 digs. Stephanie Abernatha collected 15 assists for the Trojans.
