MOSCA'S TWO GOALS TOO LITTLE AS BEARCATS FALL 3-2

Brian Lovellette

    GAME BOXSCORE

      (LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 15)--
Despite two goals from senior forward Nicolas Mosca (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) the McKendree College men's soccer team lost at home to Bethel College 3-2.

McKendree fell behind early when Bethel was awarded a penalty kick on a foul inside the box at the 29-minute mark. Wildcat Sean Fraser stepped up for the kick and buried the shot to the lower left corner of the net and past the Bearcat keeper.

McKendree rallied and tied the game at the 32-minute mark when Nicolas Mosca (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) netted the first of what would be two goals in the game. Bearcat Jarius Holmes (O' Fallon, Ill./O' Fallon) (O' Fallon, Ill./O' Fallon) set the goal up after dribbling around a defender along the end-line and finally setting up Mosca with the pass.

The Bearcats grabbed a 2-1 lead when Mosca struck again, this time at the 47-minute mark. Mosca was fed an outlet pass from Cole Harres (Belleville, Illinois/Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) allowing Mosca to juke a defender and get off the shot for the go-ahead goal.

Bethel fought back however and tied the game just nine-minutes later when Malan Jarju buried a shot on a cross from teammate Salcuk Ali. The Wildcats grabbed the lead when Joe Wright sent a head ball into the back of the net at the 83-minute mark, to give Bethel the 3-2 lead.

McKendree had a chance to tie and send the game into overtime but the Bearcats narrowly missed on a head ball off a cross that would have sent the ball into an open net.

Bearcat keeper Santiago Hampton (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. George's) (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. George's) made three saves in picking up the loss.

McKendree is now 2-3 overall and will be in action again Tuesday, September 19th at home when they open American Midwest Conference play against Williams Baptist College. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
