(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 18)—The McKendree College volleyball team pushed its American Midwest Conference record to 3-0 with a sweep at home Monday afternoon of Williams Baptist College. The Bearcats took the best-of-five contest by scores of 30-18, 30-20 and 30-20.
Freshman outside hitter
Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) had 11 kills and four blocks in leading McKendree to its fourth win in five matches. The Bearcats are now 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the AMC standings. McKendree moved into first place with its victory on Monday, one-half game in front of Columbia College, which is 2-0 in league play.
Sophomore middle hitter
Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) added eight kills and a team-high nine blocks for McKendree, while senior outside hitter
Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) posted seven attacks and 14 digs. Senior defensive specialist
Marcy Gibson (Carbondale, Ill./Salem) (Salem, Ill./Salem) had a team-high 23 digs and four service aces for the Bearcats.
Amanda Haralson had a team-best nine kills for Williams Baptist, which dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the AMC.
McKendree will be at William Woods University Tuesday at 7 p.m. for an AMC contest.
