(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 19)-- The McKendree College men's soccer team opened 2006 conference play with an 8-0 win at home over Williams Baptist College. In the win, McKendree midfielder Tim Dew (Winchester, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) ( Winchester, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) netted his first career hat trick, while also adding an assist for seven total points in the game.
McKendree controlled the game from the start, gettin on the board just nine-minutes into the game. Dew started the scoring with a goal on a pass from Gareth Batchelor (Southampton, Hampshire/Tauntons) (Southampton, Hampshire/Tauntons). Dew followed with his second goal of the game just three-minutes later, again being set up by Batchelor.
Bearcat Nicolas Mosca (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) netted his team-best fourth goal of the season at the 15-minute mark on a pass from Dew. Dew completed the hat-trick with a goal at the 18-minute mark on a pass from Matt Jannings (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central) (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central).
McKendree added another goal just before halftime when Cole Harres (Belleville, Illinois/Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) scored on a pass from Higor Alencar (Sao Luis, Brazil/Harper Creek) (Sao Luis, Brazil/Harpers Creek) with just 1.6 seconds remaining.
McKendree continued the scoring in the second-half when Dan Bleisch (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) scored his first goal as a Bearcat at the 64-minute mark. Eric Frierdich (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) added an assist on the goal.
Frierdich wrapped up the scoring for the Bearcats netting two goals in the final two-minutes of play with Bearcat keeper Brad Dietrich (Belleville, Illinois/Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) assisting on the first goal. Dietrich also recorded the shutout, making one save in the win.
McKendree out-shot the Eagles 32-2 in the game and held a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. The 32 shots and 16 on goal shots are both season highs for the Bearcats.
McKendree is now 3-3 overall this season and 1-0 in the American Midwest Conference. The Bearcats will be in action again tomorrow when they host Westminster College. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
