(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 19)—The McKendree College volleyball squad continued its winning ways in American Midwest Conference play with a sweep Tuesday at William Woods University. The Bearcats rolled to victory by scores of 30-17, 30-22 and 30-27.
McKendree strengthened its grip on first place in the AMC standings with a 4-0 record. Overall the Bearcats have won five of their last six matches to move to 7-4. McKendree will return to action Friday and Saturday at the Trinity Christian College Tournament in Palos Heights, Ill.
At William Woods, freshman outside hitter
Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) had a team-high 12 kills for McKendree. Senior outside hitter
Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) added 11 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Senior defensive specialist
Marcy Gibson (Carbondale, Ill./Salem) (Salem, Ill./Salem) chipped in with a team-leading 12 digs and three service aces, and junior setter
Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) posted 35 assists.
Amanda Newton led a balanced attack for William Woods with seven kills. The Owls are now 7-7 on the year and 2-2 in AMC play.
