BIG SECOND HALF PROPELS BEARCAT MEN'S SOCCER TO 4-1 WIN

(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 23)-- The McKendree College men's soccer team scored three goals in the second-half to pull away for a 4-1 win over William Woods University. McKendree held a 1-0 lead at half-time but scored three consecutive goals early in the second-half to take command of the game and pick up their third straight win to improve to 5-3 overall. The win also improves the Bearcats' American Midwest Conference record to 2-0 on the season.

McKendree scored early when Jarius Holmes (O' Fallon, Ill./O' Fallon) (O' Fallon, Ill./O' Fallon) buried a shot from just outside the box just eight-minutes into the game. Bearcat defender Chris Hall (Southampton, England/Tauntons) (Southampton, England/Tauntons) picked up the assist on the play.

The game remained 1-0 until nine-minutes into the second-half when Nicolas Mosca (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Luis Gonzaga) netted his team high sixth goal of the season.

Cole Harre (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) added to the Bearcat lead when he scored at the 69-minute mark after being set-up by Holmes. Eric Frierdich (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) wrapped up the Bearcat scoring with his third goal of the season just 24-seconds later. Matt Jannings (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central) (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central) and Higor Alencar (Sao Luis, Brazil/Harper Creek) (San Luis, Brazil/Harper Creek) combined to pick up assists on the goal with a pair of one-touch passes to the open Frierdich.

Bearcat keeper Santiago Hampton (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. George's) (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. George's) made six saves in the game, with the only Owl goal being scored on a tap-in as the buzzer sounded to end the game.

McKendree is now 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the AMC. The Bearcats will be in action again Monday when they travel to Culver-Stockton College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
