(PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill., Sept. 22)—The McKendree College volleyball team opened round-robin play at the Trinity Christian College Tournament Friday with a victory against Bethel College (Ind.). The Bearcats needed four games to take the best-of-five match by scores of 30-26, 28-30, 30-23 and 36-34.

 

Freshman outside hitter Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) led the way for McKendree with 20 kills, while senior outside hitter Codi Dempster (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Twin Rivers) was right behind with 14 attacks. Senior defensive specialist Marcy Gibson (Carbondale, Ill./Salem) (Salem, Ill./Salem) added a team-high 23 digs, while junior setter Hannah Burleson (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) was next with 15 digs.

 

Junior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) also helped key the Bearcat victory with 51 assists and three service aces.

 

McKendree, now 8-4 on the year, will meet Taylor University at 8 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Christian College Tournament.
