Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa.) added to his all-time scoring lead in a big way as the McKendree College hockey team won an 8-7 decision over Illinois State University in the Bearcats’ home opener Friday at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
Roberts had a hand in every Bearcat goal on the night, tallying eight points in the victory. Roberts netted a pair of goals and had six assists as McKendree improved to 2-2 on the year. The Bearcats and Icebirds will close out their weekend series Saturday at 3 p.m. in Fairview Heights.
Sophomore center/wing
Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) added two goals and two assists for Mckendree, while senior defenseman
Brent Grimm (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) chipped in with four assists. Sophomore defenseman
Chris Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) (Levittown, Pa./Truman) also scored two goals for McKendree, including the game-winner with 4:13 remaining in the third period.
Junior
Ryan Ahlemeyer (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) picked up the win in goal for McKendree.
