(FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill., Jan. 20)—Sophomore wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) scored four goals to lift the McKendree College hockey team past Robert Morris College-Springfield Saturday afternoon in Fairview Heights, 6-3.

 

Dreyer scored all four goals in the first two periods as the Bearcats built a 5-0 lead. Senior defenseman David Padgett (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) added a third-period insurance goal to help McKendree earn a weekend split with the Eagles. The Bearcats are now 12-9 overall and will host Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville Friday at 8:30 p.m.

 

Dreyer tallied the only goal of the first period, then added his second goal early in the second period to give the Bearcats a 2-0 advantage. Freshman center Adam Braundmeier (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) netted his first goal at McKendree, and Dreyer followed with two more goals to extend the Bearcats’ lead to 5-0 with 2:42 remaining in the second period.

 

Robert Morris-Springfield tried to rally with a goal late in the second period and one early in the third before Padgett’s goal iced the victory for McKendree.

 

Junior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) added three assists in the victory, while junior wing Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) and freshman wing Derek Hartung (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) each chipped in with two assists.

 

Freshman Anthony Millatti (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) stopped 45 shots to pick up the victory in goal for McKendree. Millatti improves to 5-4 on the season.
