HOCKEY TEAM RECORDS 7-0 SHUTOUT WIN OVER ROBERT MORRIS

Nick Dreyer had a goal and two assists in the shutout win
(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 22)—The McKendree University hockey team continued its winning ways Friday with a 7-0 victory Friday at home against Robert Morris College.
 
Seven different players scored a goal and 12 players registered at least one point as the Bearcats pushed their winning streak to three games. McKendree will take a 5-2 record into Saturday’s weekend finale against Robert Morris. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. in Fairview Heights.
 
Junior Marc Power (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) stopped 19 shots to record his first shutout of the season. Power was making just his second start of the 2007-08 season.
 
McKendree jumped out to a 4-0 lead through one period of play. Senior wing Ryan Haeffele (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) started the scoring off a pass from senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) just over five minutes into the contest. Senior center/wing Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) followed two minutes later and junior wing Zach Crawford (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) scored at the 7:28 mark to extend the Bearcats’ lead to 3-0.
 
Junior center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) rounded out the first-period scoring with an assist from senior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem).
 
Dreyer tallied the lone McKendree goal of the second period before freshman wing Nick Smothers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) scored early in the third period to give the Bearcats a 6-0 lead. Roberts closed the scoring with the only power-play goal of the evening with assists from Dreyer and junior defenseman Chris Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) (Levittown, Pa./Truman).
