(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Oct. 3)—The McKendree University volleyball team was defeated in an American Midwest Conference match Wednesday at Missouri Baptist University. The host Spartans needed four games to grab the win by scores of 30-16, 30-32, 30-20 and 30-25.

 

The loss drops McKendree to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the AMC. Missouri Baptist posted its ninth consecutive win to improve to 11-7 on the year and 5-1 in the conference. McKendree will return to action this weekend at the Lindenwood University Classic in St. Charles, Mo. The Bearcats will meet Baker University Friday at 3 p.m. before taking on William Jewell College at 7 p.m. McKendree will also have a pair of matches on Saturday.

 

Against Missouri Baptist, junior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) and sophomore outside hitter Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) shared team-high honors with 11 kills apiece. Kombrink also posted six blocks, including five solos. Witte and senior libero Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) each had a team-leading 14 digs.

 

Senior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) handed out 19 assists, while junior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) added 14 sets.
