WOMEN’S SOCCER TAKES BAKER TO DOUBLE OVERTIME, TIES 3-3

(BALDWIN CITY, Kan., Oct. 7) – The McKendree University women’s soccer team led 3-2 at halftime of Sunday’s game, but couldn’t hold onto the lead and tied Baker University 3-3 after two overtime periods.
 
The Bearcats, now 8-2-2 overall on the season, will face Hannibal-LaGrange College Friday at 7 p.m. The senior’s will be honored prior to the contest as a part of senior day.

Senior midfielder Lucy Elliot (Southampton, England) scored first for the Bearcats off an assist by senior back Nicole Chappell (Highland, Ill./Triad) (Highland, Ill./Triad) and junior forward Jenni Schoon (Morton, Ill./Morton) (Morton, Ill./Morton) followed with a goal off an assist by senior forward Ashlee Ritchie (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) to give the Bearcats an early 2-0 lead. Two goals by the Baker Lady Wildcats tied the game 2-2 midway through the first period until sophomore midfielder/forward Sarah Ryan (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) found the back of the net off a Theresa Kaiser (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) assist to take a 3-2 lead into halftime. The Bearcats gave up a goal midway through the second half to tie the game 3-3, but after two ten-minute overtime periods, neither team scored to end the game in a 3-3 tie.

Freshman Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) played all 110 minutes in goal and had five saves in the tie.
