(COLUMBIA, Mo. – Oct. 9) – The McKendree Bearcats remained undefeated in American Midwest Conference play Tuesday night defeating Columbia College 2-1 in double overtime. The Bearcats ended the game with 2:03 remaining in the second overtime.
McKendree returns to Leemon Field for senior night Friday at 5 p.m. to host Hannibal-LaGrange College.
The Bearcats scored the only goal of the first half when senior midfielder
Gareth Batchelor (Southampton, Hampshire/Tauntons) (Southampton, England) scored on a penalty kick to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead heading into the half. Things looked as if the Bearcats would sneak away with a win late in the second half, until Columbia scored late in the second period to tie the game 1-1. Neither team would score in the first overtime period, but eight minutes into the second overtime freshman forward
Max Stainmez (Holland, Ontario, Canada/Denison) (Holland, Ontario, Canada) scored giving the Bearcats the 2-1 win.
Senior goalkeeper
Santiago Hampton (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. George's) (Buenos Aires, Argentina) had two saves in the win, improving his record to 6-1 on the season.
