(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 11)—The McKendree University hockey team regained its winning form on Friday with a 7-3 road victory against Northwestern University.
Senior wing
Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) posted a hat trick to lead the Bearcats to the win. McKendree is now 8-5 overall and will meet Northwestern again on Saturday.
McKendree trailed 2-0 after the first period, but outscored the Wildcats 7-1 over the final two periods to rally for the win. Dreyer started the comeback effort early in the second period before Northwestern notched its final goal of the contest seven minutes into the stanza to regain a 3-1 advantage.
Later in the second period, the Bearcats tallied three goals in a span of one minute, 39 seconds to seize the lead for good. Junior defenseman
Jordan Thompson (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) began the outburst at the 4:45 mark before senior center
Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) knotted the score at 3-3 just 46 seconds later.
Junior defenseman
Brooks Boeschen (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) put McKendree in front to stay, 4-3, at the 3:06 mark of the second period. Dreyer finished off his hat trick with a pair of third-period goals, while freshman defenseman
Ryan Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) (Levittown, Pa./Truman) netted an unassisted goal with just 22 seconds on the clock.
Junior Marc Power (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) stopped 29 shots to earn the victory in goal for the Bearcats.
