(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 3)—The McKendree University volleyball team was defeated in all three of its matches Saturday at the Huntington University Quad in Huntington, Ind.

 

The Bearcats lost in four games to the University of Michigan-Dearborn before taking host Huntington to the limit in the second match, coming up short in the fifth and deciding game. McKendree then wrapped up its stay in Indiana with a four-game loss to Lindsey Wilson College.

 

McKendree wraps up its regular-season schedule with an overall record of 21-16. The Bearcats posted a 9-5 record in American Midwest Conference play to finish third in the league standings. McKendree will play host to William Woods University in the quarterfinal round of the AMC Tournament on Tuesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.

 

In its first match Saturday morning, McKendree squared off with Michigan-Dearborn. The Bearcats dropped the first two games before rallying for a win in game three. However, Michigan-Dearborn took game four and the match by scores of 30-27, 30-24, 19-30 and 30-21.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) led McKendree with 14 kills, while junior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) and sophomore outside hitter Brittany Schrage (Aviston, Ill./Breese Central) (Aviston, Ill./Breese Central) each connected for 10 kills. Kombrink also led the Bearcats with six blocks.

 

Junior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) handed out 22 assists, while senior libero Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) had a team-leading 29 digs for McKendree.

 

Against Huntington, McKendree built a 2-1 lead before the Foresters took control in games four and five. Huntington was the contest by scores of 30-23, 31-33, 26-30, 30-19 and 15-6.

 

Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) led the offensive attack for McKendree with 13 kills and 10 blocks. Lisa Witte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) notched 11 kills, while senior setter Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) added a team-high 22 assists. Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) handled 20 digs and senior defensive specialist Hannah Burleson (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) (Dexter, Mo./Dexter) was right behind with 19 digs.

 

In its final match of the day, McKendree met up with Lindsey Wilson. The Lady Raiders took the first two games before the Bearcats avoided the sweep with a win in the third game. Lindsey Wilson pulled ahead in the fourth and final game to record the victory by scores of 30-26, 30-28, 26-30 and 30-22.

 

Brittany Schrage (Aviston, Ill./Breese Central) paced the Bearcats with 13 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Dani Collins (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) added 11 attacks. Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) posted 23 assists and three service aces. Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) collected 23 digs for McKendree.
