(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 10)—The McKendree University hockey team saw its win streak grow to seven consecutive games with a 4-3 victory Friday night on the road against Bradley University.
Junior center
Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) and senior wing
Brian Neighbors (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) each scored third-period goals to help the Bearcats break a 2-2 tie and pull ahead for the victory. Bradley scored in the final minute of play, but McKendree was able to hold on for the win.
McKendree, now 14-5 on the season, will wrap up the first half of its 2007-08 season Saturday with another road game with Bradley University.
In Friday’s contest, senior wing
Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) gave McKendree a 1-0 lead in the first period on a power-play goal off an assist from Donze. Bradley tied the game with just under two minutes remaining in the period.
Senior wing
Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) pushed the Bearcats back in front, 2-1, in the second period before Bradley answered once again midway through the stanza to even the score at 2-2. Donze notched the game-winner midway through the third period before Neighbors tacked on an insurance goal.
Junior defenseman
Jordan Thompson (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) added two assists for the Bearcats. Junior Marc Power (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) stopped 35 shots to pick up the victory in goal for McKendree.
