(Champaign, Ill., Dec. 8)—The McKendree University wrestling team defeated Findlay University, but lost to Big Ten power University of Illinois Saturday at a split dual hosted by the University of Illinois. Findlay was rated No. 16 in the latest NCAA rankings.

 

The Bearcats won six matches against No. 16 Findlay on their way to a 25-15 win. The dual was highlighted by Aaron Winning (Highland, Ill./) (Highland, Ill./Althoff) pinning two-time NCAA Division II champion Antonio Guerra at 157-pounds and Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill./) (Shiloh, Ill./O’Fallon) getting a 2-0 decision over No. 6 Dan Stevenson at 197-pounds. Other winners against Findlay were A.J. Ciccarelli (Edwardsville, Ill./) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) at 125, Wade Lowe (Godfrey, Ill./) (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) at 133, Ryan Jahn (Bolingbrook, Ill./) (Bolingbrook, Ill/Bolingbrook) at 141, and Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./) (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) at 184.

 

Winning and Wolk were the only two winners for the Bearcats against Illinois, losing 31-9.

  

The Bearcats, currently the No. 2 team in the NAIA, will return to the mat January 12 in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the NWCA National Duals. Matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.
