(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 10)—The McKendree College men’s basketball team made a season-high 13 three-pointers on its way to a 112-77 victory Saturday at home against Harris-Stowe State University.
The Bearcats were 12-of-21 (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc in the first half as they built a 62-43 lead at the intermission. All 11 McKendree players scored in the contest as the team reached the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season. McKendree is now 18-8 overall and 6-2 in the American Midwest Conference.
Sophomore guard
Eric Palm (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) led McKendree with 23 points, including a 5-of-9 effort from three-point range. Senior guard
Mark Stovall (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) (St. Louis, Mo./Jennings) added 20 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward
Nick Livas (Cary, Ill./Prairie Ridge) (Cary, Ill./Prairie Ridge) chipped in with 17 points, seven rebounds and a team-best three blocked shots.
Junior guard
T.J. Stone (Hendersonville, Tenn./People's Academy) (Hendersonville, Tenn./People’s Academy) had 15 points for the Bearcats, and senior forward
Mike Strobbe (Ferguson, Mo./McCluer) (Ferguson, Mo./McCluer) had 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in the victory.
McKendree raced to a 26-5 start in the first six minutes of play. The Bearcats shot 61.5 percent (24-of-39) from the field in the first 20 minutes to take its 19-point halftime lead. Stovall and Palm each hit four three-pointers in the first half, while Stone added three shots from long-range in the period.
Roderick Coleman led Harris-Stowe (6-19 (2-6 AMC) with 22 points and three steals, while Robert Bankhead, Phillip Stewart and Terrel Caston each chipped in with 12 points. Stewart pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds, while Aaron Jones added 11 caroms for the Hornets.
McKendree will head to Walnut Ridge, Ark., on Thursday for an AMC contest at Williams Baptist College. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
