(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 23)—The McKendree College hockey team was defeated Friday by Illinois State University in the semifinal round of the Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA)  Silver Division Tournament, 9-0. The contest was played at the International Ice Center in Romeoville, Ill.

 

The Bearcats’ 2006-07 season came to an end with the loss. McKendree wraps up the year with an overall record of 16-10. The Bearcats have qualified for the MACHA Tournament in each of the past two years.

 

In Friday’s contest, Illinois State broke a scoreless tie by exploding for six goals in the second period. The Icebirds added three more scores in the third period to round out the scoring. Illinois State held a 62-29 edge in shots on goal against McKendree.

 

Marc Power (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon), making his first appearance of the season in goal for McKendree, faced 46 shots in the first two periods. Junior Ryan Ahlemeyer (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) stopped 13 of the 16 shots he saw in the final 20 minutes of play.
