(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Feb. 7)—The McKendree College wrestling team dropped a 25-17 dual match decision Wednesday at the University of Indianapolis.
After trailing 16-3 midway through the contest, the Bearcats used a pair of major decisions and a win by injury default to grab a 17-16 lead with just two matches remaining. However, the host Greyhounds bounced back to take the final two contests to earn the home win.
McKendree slips to 5-5 overall in dual matches this season. The Bearcats will return to action Thursday for its final dual contest of the 2006-07 season at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
At Indianapolis, McKendree managed just one victory in its first five matches of the evening. Junior
Kyle Jahn (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) posted a 9-3 win at 141 pounds. The Greyhounds were able to build a 16-3 lead after the 157-pound match, when senior
Josh Blackburn (Sadorus, Ill./Tolono Unity) (Sadorus, Ill./Tolono Unity) was narrowly defeated by a 6-4 margin.
The Bearcats started their comeback at 165 pounds, when senior
Clay Weier (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) rolled to an 11-2 win. Sophomore
Rick Cook (Wentzville, Mo./) (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland) followed with a victory by injury default at 174 pounds, and freshman
Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./) (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) pushed McKendree in front for the only time in the match, 17-16, with a 12-2 win at 184 pounds.
But Indianapolis won the final two matches in the dual to rally for the win. The Greyhounds improved to 4-5 win the victory.
