(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., Feb. 8)—The McKendree College wrestling team wrapped up its dual meet schedule with a 25-12 victory Thursday at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
The Bearcats won six of 10 matches on the evening to post its sixth victory in dual match competition in 2006-07. McKendree established a new program record for wins in a season, breaking the old mark of five set in 2003-04 and equaled in 2004-05. The Bearcats went 6-5 in duals this season. SIU-Edwardsville slips to 3-8 with the loss.
Sophomore
Jermaine Waye (Altama, Ga./) (Atlanta, Ga.) set the tone for McKendree with a 6-5, come-from-behind victory at 125 pounds. Senior
Mike Miller (Lawton, Okla./) (Lawton, Okla.) followed with a 12-0 shutout at 133 pounds, and junior
Kyle Jahn (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) (Bolingbrook, Ill.) was next with an 11-5 decision at 141 pounds.
After three straight wins helped the host Cougars pull to within 10-9, senior
Brandon Wyms (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) (St. Louis, Mo.) put McKendree back on the winning track with a 5-2 triumph at 174 pounds. Freshman
Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./) (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) registered the only pinfall of the evening as he needed just 39 seconds to take the 184-pound contest. Senior
Trevor Maloch (Corona, Calif./Santiago) (Corona, Calif.) closed out the evening with a forfeit victory in the heavyweight class.
McKendree will return to action Feb. 17 at the NAIA Eastern Regional in St. Charles, Mo. The day-long event is being hosted by Lindenwood University.
