(TUCSON, ARIZ. MARCH 13) – It was a tale of two games for the Bearcats Tuesday, as they split on their first day of the Tucson Invitational. The Bearcats defeated Minot State University 12-9 Tuesday morning, but fell 3-2 in 9 innings to Bethany College in the afternoon.
The Bearcats used steady scoring in the first game, scoring four runs in the third and fourth innings, followed by two runs in fifth and sixth innings.
Angie Maue (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin HS) (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) led the Bearcats at the plate, going 3-4 with a home run and four RBI’s. Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo)went 2-4, with four RBI’s, and
Colene Pogue (Mason, Ill./Waltonville) picked up the win, while Lindsey Christiansen (Downers Grove, Ill./South) got the save.
The Bearcats found themselves in a close one in game two, only to lose 3-2 in nine innings. McKendree had a 2-1 lead going into the third inning, until Bethany crossed the plate in the fourth to tie it up 3-3, and would then score again in the ninth to end the game.
Andrea Hawkins (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) went 1-4, with two RBI’s and on the mound Lindsey Christiansen got the loss, despite having six strikeouts.
