(LEBANON, Ill., April 10)- The McKendree College softball team split an American Midwest Conference doubleheader against visiting Hannibal-LaGrange College Tuesday afternoon, ending their winning streak at 12 games. The Bearcats took advantage of three home runs to win game one 10-2 in six innings, while only getting three hits in a 1-0 loss in game two.
The Bearcats, now 28-8 overall and 9-1 in the AMC, travel to St. Louis, Mo. to face Missouri Baptist Thursday in a conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
The Bearcats led 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, before first baseman
Rachael Ostertag (O' Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) (O’Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) hit a two-run home run, her seventh of the season, to make the score 5-1. Catcher
Angie Maue (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin HS) (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) and shortstop
Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) both homered in the sixth inning to end the game by the score of 10-2 in the sixth inning.
Ostertag led the Bearcats at the plate going 3-4 with three RBI, and
Amy Quirin (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West HS) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) picked up the win, her seventh of the year, striking out eight and giving up two runs.
Game two only saw eight combined hits, but Hannibal-LaGrange got them when they mattered most. The Trojans got on the board in the second inning, scoring on a wild pitch by
Colene Pogue (Mason, Ill./Waltonville) (Mason, Ill./Waltonville) to make the score 1-0. The Bearcats had opportunities late in the game, but struck out eight times in the loss.
Aldridge was 2-3 in the game and was the only Bearcat with multiple hits. Pogue got the loss for McKendree, throwing six innings and striking out five.
