(ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 16)- The McKendree College softball team swept an American Midwest Conference doubleheader at Missouri Baptist University Monday 18-1 in six innings and 17-3 in five innings.
The Bearcats (30-8, 11-1) host Columbia College (19-10, 11-1) for an AMC doubleheader Tuesday at 2 p.m. and will honor six seniors between games. McKendree and Columbia are currently tied for first place in the AMC.
Rachael Ostertag (O' Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) (O’Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) hit a grand slam in game one, her team-leading eighth round-tripper of the year, to propel the Bearcats to the win.
Becky Sommer (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) and
Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) both had two hits, with Aldridge hitting one triple.
Amy Quirin (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West HS) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) picked up her eighth win of the year, throwing six scoreless innings, striking out six and walking four.
Lindsey Christensen (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) threw one inning, and gave up one run.
In game two,
Andrea Hawkins (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) went 3-3 at the plate and
Lauren Meyer (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) was 3-4. Aldridge was 1-3 after hitting a two run home run, her sixth of the season.
Colene Pogue (Mason, Ill./Waltonville) (Mason, Ill./Waltonville) improved her record to 12-3, throwing four innings and giving up five hits.
