(CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky., Sept. 22)—The McKendree University volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday in the final day of play at the Campbellsville University Invitational. The Bearcats were swept by host Campbellsville University in the morning, but rallied to defeat Indiana University-Southeast in the final match of afternoon play.
The loss to Campbellsville marked the Bearcats’ first defeat in 2007. McKendree had its win streak snapped at 11 matches. However, the win over Indiana-Southeast gives the Bearcats a 12-1 overall record heading into an American Midwest Conference match Tuesday at Harris-Stowe State University. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
Against Campbellsville, McKendree suffered its first loss of the year in a sweep by scores of 30-22, 30-27 and 30-22. Junior middle hitter
Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) led the Bearcats with eight kills and three service aces, while sophomore outside hitter
Dani Collins (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) chipped in with six kills. Senior setter
Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) and junior setter
Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) each handed out 11 assists, and senior libero
Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) posted a team-leading 14 digs.
McKendree had to battle from behind in its match with Indiana-Southeast. The Bearcats lost the first game before rallying to win the final three games and the contest by scores of 26-30, 30-19, 30-25 and 30-24.
Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) collected a team-high 18 kills and five service aces to lead McKendree, while sophomore outside hitter
Brittany Schrage (Aviston, Ill./Breese Central) (Aviston, Ill./Breese Central) added nine kills and three service aces.
Allison DeGroot (Highland, Ill./Highland) posted a team-leading 25 assists, and
Courtney Aldridge (Dupo, Ill./Dupo) notched 18 digs.
In addition, senior middle hitter
Angie Clark (Charleston, Mo./Charleston) (Charleston, Mo./Charleston) recorded four blocks, with
Dani Collins (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) right behind with three blocks.
Following Saturday’s action, Kombrink and Collins were named to the All-Tournament team.
